'After the Tribulation, cometh the Son of Man upon the Clouds'

OPERATION REDEMPTION

That's an extraordinary remark! "See that ye be not troubled."
 

And after that, Babylon, city of abomination, is thrown down, the beast is chained for a thousand years, and the New Jerusalem descends as a bride prepared for her husband.

That enormous allegory looks as if it's talking about our time. This is exactly what is happening; and the beast is now putting up his immense fight because he knoweth that his time is short.

The Field Of Battle Has Shifted Down To Earth

In other words, Michael and his angels have overthrown the beast, and the field of battle has shifted down to Earth.

Who then is Michael?

The Archangel Michael is variously known as: 'the Wielder of the Sword of Light', 'the Lord of the Cosmic Forces upon Earth', 'the Countenance of the Christ', 'the Lord of the Cosmic Intelligence'.

Michael is a great being. He is the exalted being who is in charge of this great epoch, this 'new age' epoch... this epoch of the second coming of Christ. As he was the archangel in charge at the time of the first coming of Christ, for the first descending of Christ.

The Lord of the cosmic intelligence... not the intellect. The intellect is male, masculine, brain-bound, sense-bound organ, which can dissect and analyse and even make wonders like the atomic bomb. That is the work of the intellect.

Michael is bringing the name for an impulse of intelligence. The great ocean of Intelligence which moves through ethereal space is descending to Earth, and the point, of course, in which it operates on Earth is through that point in nature which has become self-conscious, in other words 'Man'. You and me.

And here is the prospect of a transformation of intelligence within Man, and above all the filling of the heart with an impulse which recognises just what that first poem (editor: earlier in speech) expressed: 'We are Many and One'. And that could be the flooding of a new power of love through the human race, that is for transformation.

Operation For The Redemption Of The Planet

This operation for the redemption of the planet has been launched, as far as we can see. And this is going to bring with it stupendous change... amazing outer changes... but it may be within ourselves.

You see, all this talk of the disasters, it may be that the very foundations of the earthquake - like an earthquake - the very foundations of our faith in rational, logical, intellect as the soul arbiter for our consciousness... that may be shaken.

And it's got to be shaken in order that we shall expand consciousness and apprehend this incredible and wonderful oneness of the whole Universe.

The real earthquake may be that within us.

The real tidal wave that is foreseen by many could be simply representing the flooding of the waters of Aquarius, of the spiritual energies through our whole soul. And the volcano could be the breaking up... the bursting up... of the energy right up our spine and out the top of our heads. In other words an inner volcano.

And if that happens inside us, it is going to be of only relative interest unless it happens outside us too. Because remember the law of correspondence: 'As within, So without'; 'As above, So below'; 'Microcosm and Macrocosm', Man being the microcosm, affecting the macrocosm.

This is the kind of thing that is likely to happen to us. This is the sort of strain in which we live. You have got to be able, somehow, to face the sort of change that is coming.

But the implication is that behind all the changes is the power of the living Christ awakening within the human heart. And with him, all his minions and angels, and all those human souls who have picked up the Christ impulse; which is Love.

And you can imagine in this time of stupendous change, those Beings of Light can only be massing in order to give support to human souls who are going through what is undoubtedly an extremely difficult, dangerous epoch.

There Never Was Such A Generation In Which To Be Alive

But, I speak especially to the young ones here, there never was such a generation in which to be alive. This is the great thought.

Whenever disasters come, you can't be killed; the body can be killed, but you cannot be killed. Incidentally, if you were washed away by a tidal wave it would be much the quickest way into the New Jerusalem, and far more comfortable on the other side. I don't mean that as a joke, it's a perfect truth.

There is nothing we really need be frightened of. The only real anxiety is that we are failing to attune ourselves to these powers of light; and that when the great event comes, we may miss it through not being aware of it ... if the Lord comes riding by and we are not aware and miss the event. That is what would be the real tragedy. Because these events are virtually on us.

As Teilhard de Chardin says, "Where is the Christian who is really tired with the wild hope that our Earth is to be recast?" He goes on to say that "Expectation ... active, operative expectation of an end of the world - that is of a transformation of the world - is the primary function of our religion".

'Expectation of a transformation of the world' ... our Earth can be recast. This is the kind of scale in which our lives are set. It's not relevant, if you don't like change, and that you would much prefer it wasn't so. Here, we have to wake up to the fact that this is the world we live in, and, it is tremendous. It is full of wonder. It is full of excitement.

It cannot be comfortable to live in an apocalyptic age, but it is certainly thrilling. And it is incomparably worthwhile to be alive at this juncture.

I will end with a poem, which many of you will have heard, that expresses the thing so splendidly. This is Christopher Fry: 'A Sleep of Prisoners'. A wonderful allegory of prisoners of war shut in an empty church in the night. They move in and out of quarrelling and bickering, and then suddenly, one after the other is picked up with a sort of biblical, cosmical thought. In this strange and inspired passage, the sergeant is suddenly taken over, and this he says ... which so expresses our own age now:
