THREE Orange-Bronze CRAFT Over Wiltshire, England, UK

Location: Seend Village, Wiltshire, England, United Kingdom

Time 23.30, 30th May 2010. I was driving home this evening heading east and looking at the sky. I noticed three orange (burnished bronze color) lights in a horizontal line in the eastern sky.

My first thought was military flares. We see these a lot as the Army uses them in the nearby Salisbury Plain military training area and these looked similar, just sitting stationary in the low sky. But then I stopped the car, and turned off the engine, because the right-most light started moving to the south in a large arc. Flares just slowly drop down under their parachutes. They don't fly horizontally.

The middle light started to move toward my position, and slightly to the south, and I could see it would come close, so I grabbed a small telescope I keep in the glove compartment. As it came closer to me, I focused using 15 x magnification. It moved past abeam my position noiselessly, and all I could see was this bronze / orange light or ball. No structure was visible behind the light and no standard aircraft anti-collision or navigation lights were showing either. While I was watching this object move past me, it simply faded out like a satellite sometimes fades out.

The third object had risen slightly and was now slowly dropping down (low on the horizon) behind a tree.

The first (right-most) light had also descended, away in an arc, to the south and disappeared.

The last thing I saw was the middle object that had descended vertically behind the distant tree.

It rose up just above that tree and was brighter.

It then descended again.

I stopped the car in a better viewing spot a mile further on the road, but none of the silent orange lights reappeared.

I have spent a lifetime watching the sky, the stars and am a former pilot. I can say this color bronze (the color of the planet Mars in a clear sky but very much brighter) does not belong in the night sky. No aircraft uses this light arrangement. Parachute flares don't move from the location that they are mortared above.

The orange light that moved across the sky to abeam my location was moving faster than a satellite. This light was bright, but seemed to get duller as it got closer.

These three objects seemed to appear out of nowhere, and just hang in the sky, before they all separated in different directions, and disappeared. That is hardly a satellite breaking up.

I cannot explain what I saw.

It seems orange lights or orbs have been common in England in the last two years. I watch the sky whenever I am out, and I have never seen anything like these before.
